Where are they now? Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Services

Ishar Women’s Multicultural Health Services

A select group of passionate 100 Women members were delighted earlier this month to take a step into the world of Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Services based in Mirrabooka.

Since 1992 Ishar Multicultural Womens Health Services has provided vital health and wellbeing services to refugee and migrant women in an endeavour to promote healthy communities. In 2021/2022 almost 10,000 women accessed this service thanks to ongoing funding for interpreters, a critical requirement in supporting over 100 different ethnic groups.

Ishar offer a holistic lifespan approach to their clients welfare: from young women accessing sex education and healthy relationships education, to middle aged women fleeing family and domestic violence or seeking counselling support, to women over the age of 45 facing financial distress, empty nest and decreasing mental and physical health.

In 2019, the members of 100 Women awarded Ishar $30,000 to pilot a Healthy Body, Healthy Minds, Happy Hearts program that supported school workshops for CaLD teen girls in learning about sexual health and respectful relationships.
The program was evaluated with a Social Return on Investment of 6:1 meaning that for every $1 invested by 100 Women, $6 worth of benefit was estimated. The program is still running today.

Our sincere thanks to Andrea Creado GAICD and her team at Ishar for their inspiring work in supporting and empowering women. Please support Ishar any way you can.
