Day job: Head of Financial Control at SRG Global but trust me not just another boring accountant.
Tell us a bit about yourself:
I’m an honorary member of the “Tired Mum of Boys” club who loves to break the typical stereotype cast on fellow number crunchers. I began my bean counting career specialising in insolvency and audit before moving to Melbourne for 12 years working at NAB and Australia Post where my family constantly plagued me with complaints about interest rate rises and their missing parcels (neither of which I could help them with). I took a year off to volunteer in Melbourne and Vietnam working with refugees, guide dogs and underprivileged children. After having my two sons best described as Dennis the Menace and Bart Simpson I moved back to Perth and joined Wesfarmers and now SRG Global.
Other than being a cool nerd who loves her spreadsheets I enjoy surprises, writing poetry, celebrating birthdays, singing karaoke (despite tone-deaf), being a liability on trivia nights, and am a self-confessed foodie with a particular fondness for moscato.
How long have you been involved with 100 Women?
I started volunteering this year when presented with the opportunity to shadow Alex Willcocks as Treasurer with the view to take over in 12 months which I’ve really appreciated the mentorship and ability to learn from these passionate and incredibly talented Board/Committee members.
Which 100 Women grant stories inspire you the most?
Whilst every story is inspiring The Water Well Project aiding refugees resonated with me the most, being a refugee myself who’s mother fled Vietnam as a boat person in the early 80’s carrying me as an infant fortunate enough to make it to the safe shores of Australia, in order to start a new life so I could have a brighter future. Without my mother’s determination and kindness of others I would not be where I am today which is why I want to help other women and children have a brighter future as well.
