Grant Recipient Update – Auscam Freedom Project

In the heart of Cambodia, a transformative initiative supported by 100 Women is making significant strides in the lives of vulnerable girls. The AusCam Freedom Project, backed by a grant of $25,350, has achieved remarkable success in its mission to protect and empower young women at risk. This project focuses on providing crisis intervention, emergency support, counselling, and mentoring services to girls facing exploitation and abuse.

Over 15 months, from January 2023 to March 2024, the project directly impacted 91 girls through crisis intervention, providing a vital lifeline to those in dire need. The impact extends beyond immediate support, with 95 girls receiving counselling and mentoring services, equipping them with the skills to navigate challenges and build resilience.

Key Achievements:
* 91 girls directly supported through crisis intervention
* 95 girls received counselling and mentoring services
* Three community outreach events engaged over 100 participants
* Digital campaign reached an astounding 434,000 people
* 95 crisis intervention packages provided emergency support
* 23 safeguarding services for emergency health check-ups to 20 girls
* 45 girls involved in the development of a new Change Agent website

The project’s reach expanded exponentially through innovative outreach strategies. Community events engaged over 100 participants, while a robust digital campaign reached an astounding 434,000 people. This widespread awareness has led to a doubling in the use of the AusCam hotline, a crucial resource for girls in crisis.

One of the project’s most inspiring outcomes is the story of Rotha, a determined young woman who overcame family challenges to pursue her dream of higher education. With AusCam’s support, Rotha not only continued her studies but also emerged as a change agent, protecting other girls in her community. Rotha expressed her gratitude, stating,

“I am so happy that I can continue my study. I am thankful for AusCam.” – Rotha, Auscam client

A significant achievement was the development of a new Change Agent website, created with input from 45 girls. This platform serves as a hub for connection, recruitment, and crisis information, promising to support thousands of girls in the years to come.

AusCam Freedom Project’s comprehensive approach includes emergency health check-ups, educational support through scholarships, and empowerment initiatives that transform beneficiaries into change agents within their communities. The project also operates a hotline and chatbot service, conducts community outreach events, and has developed a Change Agent website to connect and support girls at risk.

The project exemplifies the power of targeted support in creating lasting change. By providing emergency assistance, educational opportunities, and empowerment tools, it not only helps girls survive but enables them to thrive and become agents of change.

As we look to the future, the project’s success underscores the vital importance of continued support for initiatives that uplift and protect vulnerable girls. The AusCam team remarked, “Working with 100 Women has been a joy. Your trust and adaptability have allowed us to keep the project at its optimal level.”

Thanks to the backing of 100 Women, the AusCam Freedom Project is not just changing lives; it is creating a ripple effect of positive change throughout communities, ensuring that more girls like Rotha can achieve their dreams and make a difference in the world.
